SDSU SD Pheasant Winter Wheat

    • The SD Pheasant is a hard red winter wheat variety developed by the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station. It is a semi -dwarf variety with excellent milling and baking quality, high test weight, and grain protein content. The variety is resistant to leaf rust, moderately resistant to stem rust, and hessian fly, making it a good choice for farmers looking for a high -yielding and resilient wheat option. SD Pheasant has been selected for Miller’s Choice ‘Best of Show’ award by the Wheat Quality Council for its excellent end -use quality.

    • The SD Vivian is a new hard red winter wheat variety developed by South Dakota State University, combining high yield and protein content with drought tolerance. It is a cross between SY Wolf and Ruth, known for its ability to maintain protein levels even at higher yields. SD Vivian has shown excellent performance in field trials, ranking first in yield in the central and western parts of South Dakota and third in the eastern region.
