Ascend-SD
Ascend-SD hard red spring wheat was developed by the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station (SDAES) and released in 2021. The variety was tested as SD4873 and was developed from the cross of Lang-MN/SD4389. Ascend-SD is a tall semi-dwarf variety, approximately 1” taller than Prevail and has excellent lodging resistance. Ascend-SD has medium-late maturity, one day later than Driver. Ascend-SD has adequate milling and baking characteristics, with average test weight and above average protein content. Application to the Plant Variety Protection office has been made with the Title V certification option. A royalty fee will be collected on all sales of Registered and Certified classes for seed purposes.
Prevail
Prevail hard red spring wheat was developed by the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station (SDAES) and released in 2013. The variety was tested as SD4178 and was developed from the population SD3720/MN98389-A. Prevail is a semi-dwarf variety, similar in height to Advance. Prevail is an early maturing variety, similar to Advance, and two days earlier than Forefront. The variety is moderately resistant to stem rust, stripe rust and Fusarium head blight. Prevail is moderately susceptible to leaf rust. Prevail has adequate milling and baking characteristics, with good test weight and average protein. Prevail is protected under the Plant Variety Protection Act with the Title V certification option. A royalty fee will be collected on all sales of Registered and Certified classes for seed purposes.
